A terrible thing happened last week. A person was assassinated for expressing his views and inviting debate. The killer decided that violence was the only way to win this debate and exchange of ideas.
People are killed every day and gun violence is one of the most serious issues of our time. However, this one hit different. You might vehemently disagree with his views on several topics. I do. But when someone sets up a table and pulls up a chair to engage in dialog, you do just that. You talk. You don't shoot. You don't win or lose in a dialog. You only learn. You agree to disagree and move on. That's what mature adults do.
Politicians, of course, did what politicians do. They weaponized the tragedy and somehow managed to lessen it.
Words are not violence and when we talk, we have every right to be wrong.
